  1. Avoiding work; lazy
  2. Without purpose or effect; pointless

verb

  1. Time spent doing nothing

I first started practicing witchcraft just before my 16th birthday during covid. So much of that time was spent doing nothing; mindlessly scrolling, staring at the ceiling, waiting for the world to resume. But from that time I gained one of the greatest gifts, I found a new way of connecting to the world around me.

I felt a spark of recognition in the first youtube videos I stumbled across. I began reading and researching fervently, I studied my own beliefs and family history, to find I wasn’t as solitary in my beliefs as I thought.

Now, four years later, I found myself pondering how I could possibly compress my wonderful, quirky, messy, amazing practice into the few short words of a domain name. I kept coming back to the word idle.

My brightest moments of growth and magick have been born from periods of transition, from time spent doing nothing. When I allowed myself the grace to be lazy, to slow down, and listen to my intuitive self.

I invite you to find time in your week to incorporate stillness. It could be as brief and simple as during your morning shower, a few minutes before bed, or a quiet lunch break.

In today’s pressure to always be going, taking a moment to pause, breathe, and be still is so often overlooked.

To be idle isn’t lazy, or pointless. To be idle isn’t a stop or an end, it is allowing yourself to pause, to be still and feel the forces of the universe and the voice within, and all the wonderful aspects of yourself.
